Christmas Party: Gift & Culture Exchange

As Christmas approaches, the College of Business and the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science jointly hosted an English-themed Christmas celebration on December 16, 2024. The event attracted faculty and students from both colleges, aiming to enhance students’ English communication skills while providing an opportunity for cross-cultural exchange. It also allowed participants to experience the warmth and joy of the holiday season amidst their busy academic schedules.

The venue was filled with festive cheer, featuring not only a delicious spread of food for students to enjoy but also a cultural presentation on the theme of Christmas. A student from Indonesia gave an in-depth introduction to the historical origins, cultural significance, and the Christian spiritual essence of the holiday. The presentation also compared Christmas celebrations in Taiwan with those in other countries, offering participants valuable cultural insights and fostering cross-cultural understanding and resonance.

The gift exchange session was the highlight of the event, incorporating English expressions for interaction. Each student prepared a thoughtfully chosen gift and participated in a creative English-speaking activity during the exchange. Students were required to briefly describe the features of their gifts in English without directly revealing their contents. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and surprises as students guessed and unveiled their gifts, creating an endless stream of laughter and cheers that added fun and joy to the celebration.

This event also served as an important initiative in the College of Business’s efforts to promote bilingual education. The school remains committed to providing a diverse English learning environment for students, offering various resources and services such as the “BESTEP Proficiency Prep Classes” to improve students’ language skills, the “VoiceTube Online Learning Course” to strengthen core grammar knowledge and workplace competitiveness, and professional guidance and support through the Bilingual Education Promotion Center. By integrating these resources and activities, the College aims to help students enhance their English proficiency and broaden their global perspectives.
