Chung Yuan Christian University College of Business Hosts Smart Technology Forum on Sustainable Corporate Strategies

Faced with challenges such as climate change, economic growth, social equity, and wealth gaps, the United Nations has announced the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide governments and enterprises worldwide toward sustainability. In response, Taiwanese enterprises continue to invest in research, technological innovation, and smart technologies. These efforts aim not only to achieve internal smart transformation but also to provide carbon-reducing products and services for clients while collaborating with suppliers to collectively pursue sustainability goals.

The College of Business at Chung Yuan Christian University and the Center for Global Taiwanese Business Studies co-hosted the Smart Technology Forum on Sustainable Corporate Strategies, inviting three prominent industry leaders to share how they leverage smart technologies to achieve sustainability objectives.

The College of Business at Chung Yuan Christian University recently held the Smart Technology and Sustainable Business Forum, focusing on the role of technology in advancing sustainable business practices.

Ying-Yi Hong, Vice President and Director of Research and Development at Chung Yuan Christian University, highlighted the university’s achievement in winning the National Sustainable Development Award (Education Category) from the National Council for Sustainable Development. The university has audited 18 sustainable campus indicators and committed to achieving net zero by 2049. Through practical action, it is cultivating a foundation for sustainable education. In the QS 2023 World University Rankings for Sustainability, Chung Yuan Christian University was the only private university in Taiwan included, ranking 11th nationwide and first among private universities. Additionally, the THE 2022 World University Impact Rankings recognized the university for excellence in seven SDG indicators, underscoring its international recognition for sustainable development and governance.

These include renewable energy integration, energy storage, EV charging, and energy IoT technologies. The company continually enhances energy efficiency to mitigate global warming. Delta’s innovations in industrial automation, such as industrial robots, cloud platforms, HMI software, energy monitoring systems, and equipment data collection platforms, advance green smart manufacturing while fulfilling corporate sustainability.

Shih-Ming Huang, Chairman of Celxpert Energy Corporation, one of Taiwan’s top three battery manufacturers, noted that ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and the UN SDGs have become critical metrics for sustainable operations. As an energy company, Celxpert actively conducts greenhouse gas inventories (ISO 14064-1) and was the first in Taiwan to achieve carbon footprint certification for lithium battery modules used in electric bicycles. The company employs scientific methods to set carbon reduction targets, implements power management systems, and integrates solar power for energy data analysis. Their headquarters serves as a demonstration base, showcasing solutions such as energy storage systems and energy-saving measures that improve production efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, they focus on reducing product carbon footprints, enhancing supply chain management, and promoting recycled packaging materials.

Despite the challenges posed by over three years of pandemic-related disruptions, the company retained all employees and introduced the “Smart Cultural Tourism IP” concept. This initiative integrates the unique cultures of local ethnic minorities into tourism merchandise, earning multiple Red Dot and iF Design Awards. The company’s Li River Hotel Guilin exemplifies green architecture, combining green energy materials with innovative technologies. Upcoming expansions aim to develop the area into a new “Peach Blossom Land,” prioritizing ecology, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and health. The new site aspires to be a sustainable base for eco-tourism, cultural preservation, and educational innovation.
