The “2015 Conference on Advancements of Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility” Successfully Completed

The “2015 Conference on Advancements of Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility” Successfully Completed Chung Yuan Christian University College of Business Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, and Department of Business Administration, held the Conference on Advancements of Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility on May 30. TBMS International Corporation Chairman Hsian-Yi Deng, and the well-known Lewis international Consulting Corporation General Manager Wen-Hsien Hsieh, both gave heart-warming and mind-stimulating speeches in this event. In addition, there were four academic seminars in the afternoon focusing on business ethics and social responsibility in research and practical issues in Taiwan. Chairman Deng gave a speech on the topic “From New Confucianism Business Culture to Sustainable Operation”. He shared the knowledge of how Confucius business culture could lead business ethics and corporate social responsibility, in order to reach sustainable objective. General Manager Hsieh spoke about “A Successful Life Holding a Social Responsibility”. Hsieh gave a view from personal career on how to define success, and the successful life that everyone should pursue in fulfilling social responsibility. Chairman Deng furthermore implied, sustainable corporate operation is like the moral of humanity, to start from very beginning, corporation needs to level up survival issues with ethical concerns. Deng carries out new Confucianism in enterprises, with traditional Chinese school of thoughts, he combines technology, religion and philosophy into the practice of business management, to reach the goal of sustainable operation. Deng concluded by raising four dimensions: (1) Corporate has to be innovative, effective, and competitive in order to survive. (2) Treat your employees with a benevolent mind to avoid possible corruption. (3) Treat others like your own, and share profits. (4) Succession has to be carried out by the talents to maintain sustainable operation. Twenty theses were presented and discussed in the following four seminars, including topics such as Financial Ethics, Marketing Ethics, Human Resource Ethics, NPO Ethics and Social Enterprise Management. Academic discussions were held on how to maintain business ethics and social responsibility in business operations. By putting these topics in business operation systems, we tend to develop a sustainable business value system. President Samuel Chang of CYCU gave an opening remark on the ceremony. He mentioned thirty years ago when he was the dean of college of business, the ministry of education planned to put business law and business ethics as compulsory courses for college of business. The issues of plasticizer and immoral edible oil in Taiwan’s food industry recently demonstrates that his stance then is correct. President Chang also announced that the university will start from 2015 academic year to put ethics course as compulsory course in all seven colleges of the university. Chung Yuan Christian University is the first university that listed business ethics as the compulsory course in Taiwan. Dean of Business College, Li-Lun Liu mentioned, “Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility Advance Conference” is the platform of communication between research institutions and management in practice. It is also the demonstration of business ethics and corporate social responsibility implementation of College of Business. Chairman of Business Administration Department, Yi-Chung Hu mentioned, the focus of CYCU is on the combination of theory and practice. Through a series of conferences about corporate social responsibility and ethics, we learn about the new trends and knowledge in the industry. Director of Research Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, Ghi-Feng Yen stated that the center was launched in 2010, and carries out researches concerning business ethics and corporate social responsibility. The center not only integrates the design and execution of related business ethics courses in the college, but also holds seminars and academic conferences regarding business ethics and corporate social responsibility and services, in order to meet the mission of CYCU’s holistic education.
