The “Metaverse Technology Application Forum” organized by the College of Business and the Center for Global Taiwanese Business Studies at Chung Yuan Christian University was a great success.

The “Metaverse Technology Application Forum,” co-hosted by Chung Yuan Christian University’s Center for Global Taiwanese Business Studies, the College of Business, and the Department of Finance, with support from the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Taiwan Association for Virtual and Augmented Reality (TAVAR), successfully concluded on November 21, 2022.

The metaverse represents the integration and development of the virtual and real worlds. The current development of the metaverse industry is applied not only in gaming, entertainment, and social media but also in work environments and educational settings. In the future, it may even become part of our daily lives and various professional fields. Developing new metaverse platforms is already a major trend in the future industrial development.

The forum invited three well-known companies to share their experiences. The first keynote speaker was Mr. Andy Peng, Chairman of the Taiwan Association for Virtual and Augmented Reality (TAVAR), who presented on the topic “SURREALM Collaborative Learning Platform: Creating New Learning Models with VR Technology.” He demonstrated how virtual reality can break through the limitations of the post-pandemic era, stimulate new ideas, and create a new learning paradigm. Through the immersive and interactive experience of VR and XR, it fosters co-creation and collaborative learning.

The second speaker was Ms. Evelyn Chou, Marketing Manager for HTC Asia Pacific, who spoke on “HTC VIVERSE: Building a Comprehensive Metaverse for Everyday Life Applications.” She shared how HTC VIVERSE allows users to establish personal spaces and offers the most immersive and smooth experience, providing users with an engaging, real-world experience.

The third speaker was Mr. Steve Chen, Senior Manager at NVIDIA, who presented on “NVIDIA Omniverse: Virtual Collaboration and Real-Time Simulation for Building Open Platforms.” He explored the metaverse from different perspectives, inspiring the audience with case studies and demonstrating how Omniverse can be used in teaching, projects, and other scenarios.

Chung Yuan Christian University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mr. Shih-Ming Pi, stated during the forum that the metaverse has become a significant topic in recent years. Chung Yuan Christian University is actively promoting the application of metaverse technology in teaching. A “Future Travel Metaverse Smart Classroom” is currently under construction in the Chen Chih Hall, with four major themes: “Future Design,” “Future Manufacturing,” “Sustainable Development and Circular Economy,” and “Quantum Computing.” These themes will be integrated into the curriculum, allowing students to create more possibilities through thematic experiences.
