According to the College of Business, the 2023 National Business Big Data Innovation Competition was a flagship activity under the Ministry of Education’s Humanity-Social Sciences and Industrial Innovation Linkage Program (Category B: Promoting Smart Enterprise Transformation through Technology). The event encouraged students to apply business strategies and utilize KEYPO Big Data Analytics Engine to conduct precise sentiment searches, analysis, and visualization, producing insightful and innovative reports aligned with industry needs.

Participating teams represented 12 academic disciplines, including business administration, information management, accounting, finance, risk management and financial planning, data science, and more. Following two months of rigorous preliminary, semi-final, and final evaluations, the championship was awarded to a team from the Finance department led by Yen-Hsien Lee, whose project, Unveiling the Business Opportunities and Strategies Behind Shareholder Gifts, secured first place. The runner-up was a team from the Accounting department, supervised by Mei-Chuan Tsao, with their project Carbon Credits or Sighs?. The third-place team, guided by Cheng-Yu Lai from the Business Administration department, presented Marketing Strategies and Sentiment Analysis for Eco-Friendly Cups.

The Finance department of Chung Yuan Christian University won first place in the inaugural “National Business Big Data” Innovation Competition.

Dean Cheng-Wen Lee of the College of Business expressed pride in the school’s teams, highlighting that four of its departmental teams advanced to the finals, ultimately sweeping the top three positions. He noted that the competition results reflected the college’s success in integrating big data teaching and research, as well as the students’ ability to excel in a highly competitive national arena. Furthermore, he emphasized that four of the top six projects were related to environmental sustainability and ESG, demonstrating the integration of these critical issues into the college’s education and research agendas.

Cheng-Wen Lee, Dean of the College of Business, encouraged participating teams to achieve outstanding results through creative insights and excellent teamwork.

Unlike typical competitions that rely on simulated or pre-collected datasets, this inaugural event allowed students to independently select topics and incorporate MarTech tools, such as the KEYPO Big Data Analytics Engine, for data-driven insights and marketing solutions. Projects tackled diverse topics including food delivery services, digital talent, mobile payments, e-commerce platforms, green stores, healthy meal boxes, eco-tourism, reusable cups, shareholder gifts, male grooming products, elderly fitness, sports industries, and ESG-related issues. The top 10 teams presented their findings and marketing innovations during the finals to a distinguished panel of judges, including Dean Jinshyang Roan from Soochow University’s College of Business, Professor Chun-Der Chen from Ming Chuan University’s Department of Information Management, and COO Zhi-Wei Jiang of BIG DATA Co., Ltd.

COO Zhi-Wei Jiang commented, “The cornerstone of digital transformation is talent cultivation. To provide students with hands-on experience in industry-grade big data analysis, BIG DATA Co., Ltd. offered free access to the KEYPO Big Data Analytics Engine during the competition. This allowed participants to explore different industries and deliver creative, insight-driven reports and marketing strategies. Throughout the competition, our marketing and technical teams reviewed students’ reports and were impressed by their creativity and innovation. We hope these students will leverage big data tools alongside other research and analytics methods in their future careers to produce even more impactful reports tailored to industry needs.”

Zhi-Wei Jiang, Chief Operating Officer of BIG DATA Co., Ltd., served as a judge and provided insightful feedback on the competition.

Dean Cheng-Wen Lee further explained that the college, under the Ministry of Education’s Deep Cultivation Program, selected BIG DATA Co., Ltd.’s KEYPO Big Data Analytics Engine through a competitive process and installed it in the Choong Leng Business Information Center. All faculty and students in the College of Business were granted access to the platform to integrate big data analysis into their coursework. The competition served as an opportunity to evaluate the outcomes of these efforts, with the goal of continuing the event annually. By fostering big data education as a defining feature of the college, Chung Yuan Christian University aspires to inspire similar initiatives at universities nationwide, advancing the integration of big data analytics into business education.
